UTAH ASSOCIATION OF MUSIC THERAPISTS BYLAWS

 

Article I Membership

 

Section 1

Professional membership shall be open to all persons interested and/or engaged in the professional use of music therapy, who are eligible to be professionally certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapy or from an equivalent organization of another country of the world and shall consist of those who have paid current dues to the Association. Such membership shall provide the privileges of participation in activities of the Association; the right to vote, to hold office, and to receive and publication of the Association.

 

Section 2

Student membership shall be open to all individuals enrolled in a Bachelor’s or equivalency level degree program and shall consist of those who have paid current dues to the Association. Such membership shall provide participation in activities of the Association and to receive and publications of the Association.

 

Section 3

Affiliate status shall be given to individuals who are interested in the therapeutic use of music and wish to support the purposes and goals of the Association.

 

Article II Dues & Conference Fees

 

Section 1

Annual due for membership is as follows:

Professional – $50.00

Student – $15.00

Affiliate – $35.00

 

Section 2

Annual dues will be due and payable commencing on September 1st to coincide with the academic calendar year.

 

Section 3

There may be fees for attending conferences of the Association as determined by the officers of the Association.

 

Article III Officers

 

Section 1

The elective officers of the Association shall be elected by active professional members through mail ballot after the last business meeting of the term before January 1 of the new term. The officers shall continue in office for a term of two years. The regular term of office shall commence on January 1 of alternating years.

 

Section 2

The appointive officers of the Association shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the elective officers.  They shall serve as non-voting officers.  Appointive officers shall assume their office at the same time as the incoming President.  Appointive officers may be reappointed without a limit to consecutive terms.

 

Section 3

Only members of the Association may run for or hold elective or appointive offices.  The following officers of the Association must be professional members during the term:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

 

Section 4

The President shall preside at the meetings of the association, appoint committees, and chair and perform other duties implied by the title.

 

Section 5

Vice-President shall preside in the absence of the president, Shall succeed to the presidency until a special election can be held, and shall serve as program chair person for conferences and experiential workshops/continuing education meetings.

 

Section 6

The Secretary shall take minutes at all business meetings, and distribute correspondence and publications.

 

Section 7

The Treasurer shall collect dues and handle the financial affairs of the Association.

 

Section 8

The Webmaster shall maintain the current Association website, keeping information current and secure.

 

Section 9

The Government Relations Representative shall:  keep current on national, regional, and state issues; seek out member’s views on pertinent issues and inform the membership of actions taken at General Business meetings; participate as requested in WRAMTA and AMTA Government Relations Committee meetings and conference calls; serve as member contact for state government relations activity, complete tasks and initiatives as determined by the WRAMTA and AMTA Committee; submit bi-annual reports of state activities to UAMT membership; and maintain a binder with up to date materials, including job description and reports of committee activities for the previous two years.

 

Section 10

The Historian shall:  keep a record of all facts, officers, events, conferences, and member presentations of the Association that date from its inception to the present time.  The Historian shall also keep a record of media items that relate to music therapy in Utah.

 

Section 11

The Student Liaison (Utah State University Music Therapy Student Association President) shall attend all officer and membership meetings and relate information to students.

 

Section 12

The CEU Chair will be in charge of tracking all CEU credits as provided through UAMT conferences and workshops for members. The CEU chair will attend all officer and membership meetings.

 

Section 13

The Musicality Workshop Chair shall organize and carry out regular musicality workshops for the purpose of enhancing the musical skills of UAMT membership. These workshops may consist of songwriting development, advanced instrument instruction, and/or free music exploration. The chair will determine the most needed areas and organize corresponding workshops. This is an optional appointed position as a member is available to fulfill responsibilities.

 

Article IV Nominations and Elections

 

Section 1

Nominations for all elected officers shall be made from the membership with prior approval of the nominee

 

Section 2

Elections will be held by mail ballot after the last business meeting and prior to the inception of the stated term of office by a majority of ballots received.

 

• President and Treasurer will be elected for terms beginning in the odd year.

 

• Vice President and Secretary shall be elected for terms beginning in the even year.

 

Section 3

In the event of a resignation from elected office, the Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer positions shall be filled by a special election to be held at the following business meeting or by mail-in election as determined by the elected officers.

 

Section 4

In the event of a resignation from elected office, the Presidential office shall be filled by succession of the Vice President to President. A special election for Vice President shall be stated in Section 3 of this article.

 

Article V Representatives

 

Section 1

Representatives to the Utah Association of Music Therapists committees shall be accepted and/or appointed by the executive board as necessary.

 

Section 2

The authority and duty of the Representatives to the Utah Association of Music Therapists committees shall be decided by the executive board.

 

Article VI Rules of Order

 

Section 1

All business of the Association will be conducted using approved parliamentary procedure.

 

Article VII Financial System

 

Section 1

If budget permits, an elected Utah Association of Music Therapists officer will be reimbursed for American Music Therapy Association Western Regional and American Music Therapy Association conference registration fees. The conference attendee will represent Utah Music Therapists at the business meeting and report back to the UAMT membership following the conference. The conference registration fees will be voted on during the first general meeting of the year preceding each conference.”

 

Section 2

Petty cash: purchases under $20.00 are allowed at the discretion and approval of the Treasurer.

 

Section 3

Primary Expenditures: purchases between $20.00 and $100.00 require Executive Committee approval.

 

Section 4

Capitol Expenditures: purchases over $100.00 require Utah Association of Music Therapists membership vote.

 

Section 5

Financial Audit: There will be an auditing of the Association’s financial records in December of the second year of the Treasurer’s term of office. The audit will be performed by the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and one person appointed from the professional membership.

 

Section 6

Financial Report: there will be no less than one financial report presented to the membership each year.

 

Article VIII Meetings

 

Section 1

Bi-annual meetings of the members shall be scheduled by the President. Date, time, and location will be announced.

 

Section 2

Special meetings of the Utah Association of Music Therapists, the Executive Board, and any committee may be called. It is the responsibility of the President or committee chair to schedule the meeting and inform the participating members.

 

Article IX Amendments

 

Section 1

These bylaws may be amended at any business meeting by two-thirds vote of the active members present, provided that the proposed amendments have been submitted to the membership at least two weeks in advance of the meeting.

 

Section 2

These bylaws may also be amended by mail vote solicited from the total membership, the amendments having been submitted to the membership by mail at least two weeks before the vote is due. A two-thirds affirmative of the members responding is necessary for change, adoption or repeal of an amendment.
