Sarah Piercy
Sarah Elizabeth Piercy completed her Undergraduate Music Therapy degree from Duquesne University in December 2004. She chose to intern with Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida and successfully completed that internship in March 2006. During her internship, Sarah became interested in learning more about Behavioral Music Therapy and decided to attend the Graduate Program for Music Therapy at The Florida State University. Sarah received her Board Certification in November 2006 and graduated with a Master’s in Music Therapy in 2008. After completing that degree, Sarah moved to Bountiful, Utah and began working for the Salt Lake Community Action Program (SLCAP) Head Start, as a Lead Teacher. During her first year of teaching, Sarah excelled by incorporating her Music Therapy knowledge and practice in her classroom, teaching the children social, physical, cognitive and language skills. She was promoted in July 2009 and currently serves the Head Start Program in Rose Park as an Education Specialist. Sarah is dedicated to improving the SLCAP Head Start Program by implementing Music Therapy as a related service for helping individuals in the program who are on an IEP. She is currently working with the School District’s who provide these services and the SLCAP Head Start Special Needs Coordinator, to execute this plan.
Sarah’s expertise lies in Early Childhood Education, Music Therapy for Individuals with Disabilities, and Medical Music Therapy. Sarah is currently serving as the Chair of Government Relations for Utah, heading a committee of five local Music Therapists, dedicated to gaining access to reimbursement sources in our state, in an effort to expand access to Music Therapy services and increase knowledge and awareness of the Profession. In her spare time, she teaches piano privately to ten students throughout the Salt Lake City area and enjoys outdoor sports such as, snowboarding, hiking, swimming, four-wheeling, fishing, kayaking and camping.
